What Is A Eulogy?

In life we never think about what is said at our funeral, much less doing any funeral planning! Most times the family will “wing it” when preparing the eulogy for a loved one. Planning a funeral should include this very important tradition. Often times when planing a funeral families get caught up in burial costs, cemetery property or cremation. Because of the stress we either forget or not make it a very important priority until the end of planning a funeral. It's important to think of your personal experiences and anecdotes of the deceased. Sometimes important information will be omitted or information may be distorted or embellished. Ever thought of writing your own eulogy? What a novel idea!

Some people leave a recorded or videotaped farewell; again be creative. And who could do a better job than telling your life story than you? Right! Times have changed because of distance and work schedules. Some people have their funerals streamed on the internet in real time so that relatives out of state can share in the farewell of a loved one. Some make video DVD’s of the funeral and eulogy and send them to far away loved ones as a sacred keepsake of their departed loved one.

What is the eulogy? A eulogy is somewhat like a personalized speech. It is given at a funeral as a testimonial to the life of the deceased. It is usually given by a relative or a close personal friend of the person who passed away. The eulogy is a way to share details and fond memories of a loved one that other people may not be aware of, or that they may find comforting. Giving a eulogy can be very difficult, since emotions are high when a loved one passes on.
